Jellipara is in the Attapadi hills .The only school in the whole of Attapady was the Government school,Agali, Which is quite far from Jellipara and there were no transportation facilities. so,many children could not get education .Being this pitiable condition Rev.Fr.Joseph Chungadth,the Vicar of St.Raphels Church, Palakkad, who was also in charge of the St.Peters Church, Jellipara, intived the CMC sisters to start a private L.P.school in Jellipara .Education being a mission of CMC ,the invitation was readily accepted Sr. Baptista ,Sr. Assalla , Sr.Regula arrived from Thrissur and staying with Martha Sisters started a school in a shed for the first time being on 8-9-1964 .Construction of the convent building was completed and blessed by Fr.Joseph Chungath on 13-2-1966 the century of the Foundation Day of CMC.Sr.Chrisostom was the first Supeoir of the convent. Mt.Mary Convent, Jellipara. The School was shifted to a shed attached to the convent in june 1966.Divine Providence made the Government sanction as Aided L.P.School Mount Carmel L. P School, Mamanna in June 1968.Sr.Clara Magdelena was the first Head Mistress.
As the poor children tribes and settlers-of the distant villages of Attappady could not attend the school, with the encouragement given by Mar Joseph Kundukulam , Bishop of Thrissur , an orphanage was started in 1971.
The school was upgraded as UP in 1975 and as High school in 1982. As the number of Students increased, the LP section was shifted to a near-by plot in 1985. The sisters and orphanage children of the LP section were transferred to the new convent Sneha Bhavan built near the school.
The Mt.Carmel High school, Mamanna keeps high standard in curricular and co-curricular fields. Christian and moral values are imported to the students and parents through catechism, moral science,retreats,prayer meetings, KCSL, arts and literary competitions, Bible study, Quiz, Counselling, PTA, MTA etc.
Besides, the sisters very earnestly participate in the activities of the parish Catechism, Kudumbasammelanam, Prayer meeting, SAFP etc.
Thus Mt. Mary Convent, Jellippara is with the people and for the people in union with our Lord Jesus Christ and our Mother of Carmel.
