St. Germains Convent, Chengal
|Address||St.Germain's Convent Chengal, Kalady|
The long cherished dream of beginning the forth Carmelite Convent in the Diocese of Ernakulam Angamaly was realized in1906 by the combined effort of Bishop Mar Louis Pazheparambil and the nearby parish priests in collaboration with the authorities of Carmelites, on the bank of River Periyar. It aimed at the education of children and the spiritual formation of the people of God. The convent was named as St.Germain by His Excellency Mar Louis pazheparambil after his miraculous escape from a shipwreck in France by the intercession of St.Germain. The richness of spirituality and the vision the sisters possessed made this convent a source which flew through different streams giving birth and life to many institutions and convents. Now 49 sisters are here in this convent including the sick and old aged. Sr. Prudence is the present superior of this convent.
