Mother Sancta CMC (Superior General)


Sr Sancta, the chosen one to lead the Congregation of Mother of Carmel, in realizing its great mission, was sworn in as Superior General in 2009. She was born in Kolath family  in Changanachery, Kottayam Dt, Kerala in the year 1950.

Answering the Divine call, she entered Carmel and took her first profession in 1970. She made her final profession in 1976 after completing her Bachelors degree from BSS College in Bhopal. After completing a course on spirituality from AVP Bangalore in 1976-77, she took up the post of Postulant Mistress for a year. Then she joined in NUSC, Pune for the Formators course after which she flew to Rome to do her Licentiate in Depth Psychology and Vocation from the prestigious Gregorian University. After her studies she was entrusted with the responsibility of Novice Mistress of the province. From 1991-94 she was Vicar Provincial and from 1994-2000 she became provincial of CMC Changanachery. She served as the Superior and Directress of the Institute of Jnanodaya, Bangalore from 2000-2003. She was elected as the Asst. Superior General of CMC for a term from 2003-2009. In 2009 she was elected as the Superior General of the Congregation. She is a Councilor in the National Executive Committee of CRI. She is also a resource person in institutions like MOC Kottayam and AVP Bangalore etc.
