Mother Angelus CMC, Kothamangalam
Mother Angelus the first Provincial Superior of Pavanathma Province was born on 28-01-1922 at Muthalakodam in the diocese of Kothamangalam. Her parents were Chemparathickal Varkey and Anna. After passing Malayalam Higher exam she joined in Carmel and made her first profession on 03-05-1944. Her final profession was on 16-04-1950. She passed T.T.C and Malayalam Visharad and appointed as a teacher in St.Theresas High School Vazhakulam.
When Pavanathma Province was formed in 1961 she was elected as the first provincial superior. Trusting in God, she lead the province in midst of all the difficulties and struggles. She sent many sisters for higher studies in and outside India and therefore paved the way for progress of the province and the people of God. She was selected as one of the Curia members for the Unification of CMC along with Bishop Hippolitus. Seeing her innocence and simplicity, Bishop Hippolitus called her Sr. Angelus, the Angel.
She gave the name Pavanathma to our province . After the term of the provincial she became the provincial Councillor, Novice Mistress, General Councillor and the Superior of Vazhakulam and Arakuzha Convents. Mother Angelus was also appointed as the director of the common prayer house in Karukutty Sanjoe. Later in 1986 she came back to the province and started a prayer house at Malippara.
Due to her hard work and austicity she became sick and entered heaven on 01-01-2001. A versatile personality, Mother Angelus was bestowed with many good qualities of mind and soul. Simplicity, innocence, submissiveness to the will of God, an appreciating mind, satisfaction, equality, happiness, listening mind etc. were some of the characteristic of this lovable Mother. She was contemplative in prayer.
