Sr. Cherukusummam CMC (General Council3)

SR. CHERUKUSUMAM, [P.P. KOCHUTHRESIA], born on 02-07-1940 at Mookkannoor, a small village in Ernakulam district . Her parents Poulose and Elishwa were very pious , hardworking and god-fearing couples. After completing her studies she joined as a teacher in St. Joseph?s school at Karukutty. As she was working there as a teacher she responded to the call of Jesus and joined in the Carmel. In 1969 ( 28-5-1969) she committed her life to Jesus, and her final profession was on 23-5-1974. Soon after the final profession, she was sent for theological studies in Pune and Goa and she was appointed as the Novice Mistress. She was in charge of Novices from 1976 to 1986. When Mary Matha Province was formed she rendered her service as a Councillor from 1987 to 1988 and then 1991- 1996. In 1996 Dec. she was elected as the Provincial superior and she served the Province in that office till 2001. After the completion of her Provincialship in May 2001, she was appointed as the Superior of Yerraguntla community (Andhra Region). In Dec. 2003 she was elected as the General Councillor and continued in that office till 2009 and in Dec. 2009 she was elected as the Asst. Provincial Superior of the Province. She bid farewell to us during her pilgrimage to Velainkanni, as she met with an accident on her way. She breathed her last on 29th Oct. 2011. Pious, zealous and a person of assiduous work- this was Sr. Cherukusumam and we lost a zealous nun who was toiling for the upliftment of the people specially women and children and keeping a motherly love towards her fellow sisters.
