Sr. Janet CMC (General Council3)
Sr.Janet was born on 5th July 1938 as the first born of Mr. Varghese Matthai Parattuparambil Cherthala and Mariakutty Joseph Thuruttikkara Vaikkam after six years of prayerful waiting. She has one brother and two sisters, among them one is a religious sister. They have been staying at Thalayolaparambu in the possession of her grandmother, known as Kumarthussery House. She secured her first University Degree in 1959 from CMS College Kottayam. Though longed to become a missionary from childhood onwards she was not permitted.
After her B.Ed in St. Josephs Ernakulam and two years of teaching experience at St. Marys Ollur, she joined the CMC Congregation in Thrissur Province and made her first profession in 1967. She served in the schools of St. Marys Ollur and St.Pauls Kuriachira for a short period.
Sr. Janets dream of becoming a missionary was realized in 1970 when she reached at Kagaznagar (A.P). She served in Lady Fatima Convent School and took great care of the poor and undeveloped villagers around. While working as the Principal of the newly established school in Nagpur she brought the School climate to the surrounding villages. She was called back in 1975 due to her ill health. After a break of three months she joined Kanikka Matha High School at Palakkad.
Next year sister was appointed as the Headmistress of Soccorso convent HS. She worked hard for the growth of the school for sixteen long years. During these years she had played a significant role in the inception of Carmel College Mala and the Holy Child School Snehagiri. In between she served as one of the Provincial councilors. She was appointed as the superior of Lisieux Convent Kattungachira and the Principal of Lisieux Convent T.T.I. in 1992. She was elected as the provincial Superior of Udaya Province Irinjalakuda in 1994. After three years She was elected as the General Councillor. During the same period Sr. Janet got an opportunity to serve the Calicut University as an elected member of the Senate for five years. At the termination of her service in Generalate, she was elected as the provincial of Udaya (Irinjalakuda) again. She had a natural bent for construction and renovation of buildings. She has been displaying a soft corner towards the poor and needy. The Carmel Garden at Thaikkattkara stands as a living proof of it. The stay at Carmelgiri Convent Veeranchira, gave her a chance to help the poor in that hill area.
