Mother Benicasia CMC (Superior General)
Born on October 23, 1940,in a small village in Chennamkary near Kainakary, Celin was born in 1940 as the 9thamong the twelve children of her parents, Rosamma and Thommachan, in Kaithara-Kakkanattu family which has been blessed with a number of religious vocations. After passing S.S.L.C, Celin joined the CMC Congregation, accepting the new name Sr. Benecasia. In 1960 she took her first profession and got finally professed in 1963. She was blessed with leadership qualities and was elected to serve her community as Provincial Councilor, Assistant Provincial, General Councilor and Superior General of the Congregation (1991-1997). She was a great visionary and it was under her guidance that C.M.C codified her history, viz.,AthyunnathanteThanalil. CMC Cronicles, Letters of CMC Co-Founder Fr. Leopold Beccaro OCD, etc. Sr. Benecasia was known for her knowledge, piety, simple life, self-discipline and love for the Church which were seen also in Blessed Chavara, a son of Kainakary. A very good administrator, Mother Benecasia was blessed with prudence in behavior and extra ordinary memory power. While serving CMC as Superior General, She considered each province as her own and did what ever she could for its growth. She used to help those who are in need. She loved silence and solitude, and would love spending most of her time in the Chapel in the presence of the Eucharistic Lord. In one way she was a mystic in her heart. Her life was so simple, sincere and silent. On the whole, she was a model to all of us. In 1999 she had a stroke at the effect of which she was almost bedridden and incapable of talking. Spending ten years in such dark night of the soul, she passed away silently to her heavenly home on Dec. 22, 2008.
