I will give you as a light to the nations that my salvation may reach to the end of the earth(Is .49/16)
At the close the mission year we raise our hearts in gratitude to God for we consider it a sign of grace and divine providence that we are able to serve the Lord in the soil of Europe too. Though our sisters had started our service in one of the hospitals at Wiewsberg in Germany in the year 1970 , we had to withdraw our service there , after 5 years due to certain unfavourable situations . At that time , Rev. Dr. Henri H.Strub , the then Vicar General of Bamberg diocese took up the responsibility of our sisters and sent them to various places for nursing studies from Wiewsberg. At present , we have four houses directly under the CMC Generalate and ten houses under various provinces , and our sisters extend their selfless service to the people over there.
The main responsibility of our sisters here , is to serve the elderly people and to prepare them for a peaceful death in the institutions mainly under Caritas and also in the institutions under town or municipality authorities . The sisters at Laiman, Angamaly Province and the sisters at Wieblingen from Ernakulam province do service to the sick and the disabled by caring for them in their homes. All our communities in Germany go for house visiting and they give necessary spiritual guidance and counseling to the people. So also our sisters make arrangements for the people to receive the Holy Sacrements and also lead them in prayers and thus help them to grow in faith. Whenever the elderly people from the institutions or homes where the sisters are working , are admitted in hospitals ,our sisters find time to visit them and thus keep up the relationship with the people.
It was in 1979 , Stift St.Benedect , the first old age home; and St.Josephs Convent had been founded at Nurembrg in Bamberg diocese under the CMC Generalate . In this institution our sisters are in charge of the various services in all the departments. In the same year , (1979) Angamaly Province started the convent House Carmel at Laiman ,in Frieburg diocese and Kanjirappilly Province started working with the German sisters at Schwich in Trier diocese . It is a matter of pride to know that the service of our sisters is very much appreciated by the German sisters even now.
In 1986 , Maria Home was started for Ernakulam province at Weiibling . It was in 1987 , the Jacous Von Hairck Stift the second old age home and the second convent St.Benedicta Cruce (1988) had been started under the Generalate in Neurnberg. Our sisters take up various responsibilities and give leadership to the people. They participate in the Parish activities too as time permits. The third institution Chavara Convent under the Generalate was started in 1995 at Kandern in the diocese of Freiburg . The convent Queen of Rosary of Pala province was started at Gladback in the diocese of Essen in the year 1966 and one of our sisters is doing full time pastoral work in the diocese. The Trichur province has a convent at Staufen(1996) in the diocese of Freiburg and the Sacred Heart Convent of Changanacherry province is at Furth in the diocese of Bamberg .
The sisters of Idukki province are working in the convent at Harsewinkel in Munster diocese that had been started by the province of Kothamangalam in the year 1998. In 2008 , a convent was started at Iphofen in Bamberg diocese for province of Hazaribag and in 2009 there set up a house at Binde in Osnabruck diocese for the province of Mananthavady and 2010 was the year in which the fourth house under the Generalate was founded at Worms in the diocese of Mainz. A few sisters of Kothamangalam province are doing service in the diocese of Essen staying with the Franciscan sisters of Germany.
We are glad to say that we have been faithful to our call and have succeeded as witnesses to the Lord by becoming messengers of the good news to all whom we came across and in all the various fields of our apostolate. We remember with love and gratitude our pioneers who had toiled very hard facing all the hardships of life here , and had gone away to serve in other places. Dear sisters , we would like to tell you that we are the beneficiaries of your goodness. We are also greatful to all our Major Superiors in India and the Ecclesiastical Authorities in Germany. A special word of thanks to the Directors of Caritas and the other charitable organizations of Germany.
